2010 Yachts & Participants

Started Sailing in International cadets at 12 and sailed Enterprises and then 505s. First keelboat was a Classic 22 and then a Viking 33. More recently raced a Cand C 27 mark 3 (Non Sequitur) and have now raced S2 9.1 (Ruffian) for 3 seasons.

I am now into my 6th season sailing with Heart Breaker, and what a great boat she is. She has seen me and my crew through some very tough conditions; and handled everything Mother Nature has thrown at her with grace ---- and usually brought us out on top of some very talented skippers and crews. Racing on this lake is simply top notch! Previously; I raced the notorious T25 “JuJube” for 10 years on this great lake of ours, and had the pleasure of competing against many great skippers and crews on her as well. This year Heart Breaker will protect us on our 5th competition in the LO300, and both Ed Tait and I look forward to the challenge. This will be Ed’s 3rd time competing in this race on Heart Breaker, the last two years being crewed by Dave Leonard and Nicole Cote respectively. Ed is a very strong sailor and a wonderful crew/co-skipper. He sailed the last 2 LO300’s on the very well sailed C&C 39 “Rock & Roll,” finishing very well on her too. I am pleased to have Ed’s skill and ability back on board for this year’s race.

Coming up to the 15th attempt, 4 being double handed. We have experienced just about everything from one extreme to another and survived them all...crew has always had a good humor, even if they kissed the dock on arrival!

At the end of last year's race, Marc said he didn't want to race double-handed any more (no one to talk to) and since Gizmo (Marc's Bombardier 7.6) is too small to race fully crewed, the easiest way to resolve that was to get a bigger boat. We are very excited and a little scared to be entering this years race in our new "99" in the fully crewed division. It was a great priveledge to race among the Double-Handed Division 3 group in the last two years and I will miss racing against our former rivals Harrier, Ariadna, Emerald and That Damn Thang. On the other hand we are looking forward to the new challenges and new rivalry's that we will face in 2010.

This will be our ninth 300 race. I raced in the first three races in the early 90's with a close friend. More recently we have competed in the fully crewed spinnaker fleet. Our results are pretty well what you can expect from a 25 year plus design crewed with the regular round the bouys group. This year we are going to approach the race with a different attitude. We plan to race hard but focus on making the trip a gourmet delight. Each member of the crew will draw a meal prep and the be responsible to wow the crew with a spectacular meal. A complete record of our culinary delights will be kept and presented following the race. Sounds like fun.

2010 Marks the 11th year of participation in a row, a sincere Heart Felt Thank You to absolutely the BEST crew available on the Lake today for making this possible....
Joined PCYC in 1969, raced for years around the cans, but the off-shore events like the LO300, the Short-Handed Series & the Susan Hood are at the top of Folichon's must do races today.......they are a lot less stressful with "fun" and "comaraderie" in the forefront.....
This year's LO300 starts on July 17 and I am really looking forward to a great turnout of 200+ boats in another record breaking year.......
If anyone out there is thinking of entering and needs a few words of encouragement to register for "The Greatest Race on The Lakes" call me, it will be the best call you have made this year.......

I have been sailing only about 6 years, racing for only the past 4 years, entered a few long distance races such as the Susan Hood, and the Lake Ontario 300. My crew and I on Black Diamond finished in 2008 at a time of 3 days and 8 hours, in 2009 we finished in 2 days 12 hours. This year our goal is 2 days and 6 hours, and placing mid fleet or better.

In 2009, delivering the boat back up to Canada from the Bahamas we entered in a couple of interesting races, one from Fort Lauderdale to Charleston described as a sled ride up the gulf stream, and the Charleston race week series.

This will be my seventh attempt at racing in this event. Last year was my first double handed and unfortunately I was not properly prepared mentalally or physically. This year I will be prepared as never before and then hopefully a decent race will result.

The Cheekee Monkee is shaking up the schedule this year beginning with the Lauderdale to KW race in January where we were first multihull to finish. We've added the LO 300 this year to be followed by the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac (a yearly pursuit). We're looking forward to this new challenge and supporting our mutihull members efforts on Lake Ontario.

Deb and Jim have been racing since 1981 on Hobie 18s to incliude many Nationals, a Worlds in Toronto, and US Sailing Alter Cup. Bought a MKI F24 Corsair in 1993 and won a number of Nationals in Florida, Mills Race, Bay Week, TransErie and other assorted Erie Races. Moved up to our current boat "Big Storm", a Stock Corsair F28 (not the R version). Had success with Big Storm on Lake Erie, Open Fleet at Corsair Nationals, and countless Port Huron - Chicago MACs. Currently reside in Port Clinton, Ohio in the shadow of Put-In-Bay.

Safety Officer for the race..Life Member and Past Commander Toronto Power and Sail Squadron, Chair Safety at Sea Seminar hosted by RCYC this April, first LO 300 in 1992, raced in double handed until fully crewed introduced , earlier races on "Alexbrae" now retired to cruising, with "Coug", Canadas Cup winner 1982 vessel of choice since 2000...Did the "Millenium"race until forced to retire with a cracked mast in the Straights of Mackinac,have a son, Brayden who does well with his own boat in the race and sailed with my daughter as mainsail trimmer several times..Love the race...

We have sailed at NYC for over 30 years on a J30 Rum Runner and are now delighted to have Capre Ventus, she is fast and graceful. This will be our third LO300
