The Solmar Lake Ontario300 is proud to support The Broad Reach Foundation for Youth leadership.
Broad Reach’s mission is to assist in the positive life development of disadvantaged, marginalized and at-risk youth between the ages of 12 and 24 across the Greater Toronto Area. These youth come from a wide range of socially and economically challenging environments, from Street Youth Drop-in centres, Homeless Shelters, Young Offender Programs, to low income and new Canadian neigbourhoods. Through participation in its unique sailing programs, Broad Reach helps youth develop self-esteem, leadership and key life skills.
Broad Reach provides it programs free of charge to all participants. Youth participate in programs ranging from introduction to sailing, racing, to CYA certification and work readiness internships. A dedicated group of staff and volunteers provide youth with a positive and supportive learning environment aboard our two Screamer 40’s and our Farr 36 located at the HMCS York.
In 2007 approximately 340 youth participated in various programs and Broad Reach received an award from the Canadian Yachting Association for providing the best program of its type in Canada.
